Chapter 1 - THE UGLY SIDE OF WRITING
Munich Reims Airport - the airport the rain was heavy outside.
The plane journey from US to Munich was a long and bumpy ride - it was the first time i was flying in a plane to a foreign land where the Nazis started their rise to power - I was both nervous and scared and excited, I found the Nazis interesting but the fear and power they exercised they gave to others the confidence they had the power was something I wanted to have for me as a player and basketball player.
The USA team come off the plane. The NBC reporter gives an interview are you looking forward your match? How do you feel?
We feel were stronger then ever and were going to win and win big.
You already have 6 gold medals do you think you can make it a seventh - Were confident we can, that's all I'd like to say.
We have to David O Connor interview, he's here to talk us through some of his thinking or is there anything to say here that is not the writing i want to regards to making a story.
David suddenly approached reporter NBC reporter asked about the USA chances against the Russians - we have good chances, the NBC reporter he already knew from the US sports journalist everyone knew NBC TV the sharp suit and fast talking sports presenter, the tie quiff hair style David was knowing this was going to happen he was expecting it - the buzz of reporters getting ready for the Olympics.
Do I want to, i have to only think of my girlfriend left back home high school sweet hearts. Split loyalties between Ukranian national and love of democracy and freedom - availibility of chocolate and his growing hate of the ussr system.
The USA team wears shell suits in red and white, the colours of the USA flag - my favourite us players, idols that influenced David's game was
the US team was swamped by reporters the captain of team took most of the interviewers questions. When getting off the plane and airhostess took my drink - she was hot and good looking and the players gave her friendly banter trying to hook up with a beauitiful woman.
In the waiting area I spot the Russian girl sitting with her friends I could see it was the Soviets they wore their distinctive red suits with the initials is the CCCP.
David eye were brimming with confidence but there was something behind them something of anguish to cover the hurt of something i don't know what, David was the spirited jock, but he had a mystery behind the man which made him much more appealing to the opposite sex. Eyes lock at each other and theres - something there I can't understand it. Spot eyes quick glimpse and she looks away.
We arrived the USSR team was on the opposite side of the room and we could see that they were confident and the US team walked into the same room as them lets see what happens.
David O Connor is giving an interview today he's talking about his skills as a basketball player.

The biggest image in my childhood that made me feel nausace was seeing my childhood basketball punctured and burst with a pitcher and knife my father used for farming the crops, the fork went straight through its guts deflating the ball - from that moment on I knew my father hated basketball and didn't agree with my dreams - he thought foolish notions and real work needed to be done around the farm, real work, labour to pay the bills and keep a roof over the family.
Marina was the first to arrive at the airport with her gymnastics squad and their coaches and entorage, they had to wait in the waiting area for buses that were arriving to pick them up were late and all their luggage was not accounted for for the ussr gymnast team.
the team had to wait in the lounge, again another surprise in burst through the door was camera people the media the flashes and noise was overbearing and loud and could be over.
The conveyor belt was revolving and revolving, around and around with still no luggage, nothing was there and we still waited, they said local workers were having issues with their rights and pay, and a strike reduced the number of employees to a skeleton crew.
there was a fight between the the USSR team and USA team as they taunted each other - hey, hey, the coaches protested, 'there's plenty of time for that on the court that's go.'
The USA team were starting to bounce the ball at the airport and threw it at the ussr team captain, it missed and David delibraetely did that and it whizzed through the air hitting the Russian champion on the back of the head - oh - said the annoyed Russian gymnast - a full scale fight broke out between the USA and USSR teams. There was no break to relenting in the desire for for for - Goliath and David stood toe to toe, man to man, the face off. The Russians accused the Americans of? - There was hatred between the communists and capitalist pigs, the cosmopolitans this was all out war between east and west. The KGB agents held back the sports squad likewise with the USA team were held back by the CIA.
